Our team has ran a tournament in Clifton, WI on the last weekend in August the past 2 years. Last year we had 12 teams, this year it's looking more like 9-10 teams. We would like to make this a 16 team, $1000 for first place, tournament year after year and maybe add a volleyball, horseshoe and/or bean bag tourney as well.
We feel like we are doing everything right as far as running the tournament for example... 100% payout, umps provided, great concessions run by Rotten Brothers Bar as well as great food at the bar across the street, camping available, homerun derby saturday night, cheap beer, full time announcer, raffles, beer drinking trophy, 6 homeruns and hit your own balls. Also, a lot of work has been going into the field, new infield put in last year and more lime added this year, permanent outfield fence is in the works, good lights, 290-300 ft fence, great seating and pavillion for spectators and play equipment for the kids. Plus the location is good because it is in the middle of the state, 15 min off the interstate. Hotels in nearby Tomah and Mauston.
The problem is it's hard getting teams to commit this late in the season. We would like to move it earlier in the year in hopes of filling up. These are a couple of the weekends we were looking at because we are either off, travel to a tourney farther away, or in the case of June 1-3, go to West Salem for June Dairy Days to play in their poorly run, poor payout of a tourney. Any input would be appreciated.

There is also 3 tournaments in La Crosse area this weekend. The Church tournament in Shelby that has about 16 teams in it every year and French Island has its league tournament this weekend. Also, there is a pumpkin ball tournament in Onalaska.
I think if you try to compete with Dairy Days you could do well . . However, they only had 8 teams in it this year . . .

Dimer we would play if you were to move it to the first weekend in June.... We have played the last few years in Waumandee, but are looking for a more competive tourney.

We were all really leaning towards that first weekend in June as well. This year we went all the way down to Monroe to play instead of West Salem because we always do bad there w/ only 4 HR's on a small field and shitty payouts.
I didn't know about all those tourneys in the Lax area this weekend too.
Also, we think by having it earlier in the year we will get more of the local teams that normally play the camp douglas, tomah and wilton tourneys. By this time of the year i don't think most of them are still playing.
Thanks for the input guys.

Any town where the name of the local tavern is called "name of town" + House is bound to be a little hairy. Shit that sounds like a place where, in the 1850's, you could get a steak, shot of brandy, and a room with a not so lady-like companion for the evening. Now that I think about it that's my kind of place. I'd just have to remember to have my six-shooter on my hip.
