I was playing the Rosholt Fair this weekend where I had an absolute blast btw and I just wanted to clear one thing up where there seems to be a misunderstanding of what actually happened during our game vs Country Canteen to decide who would go on to face Barrell Inn in the championship game.
I went out to talk to the home plate umpire to see what the rule was on taking shared bats in and out of the dugout during the middle of an inning. Our sponsor informed me that they had a bat tossed out of the game during last year's tournament for taking it into the dugout. We noticed that one of the bats that Country Canteen was using wasn't out there one inning and we just assumed it broke. Then they used it the next inning. When they did that I went out to see what the deal was. I never really got an answer to what I was trying to find out. Does anyone know what the rule is on this? Because if that is the rule then Country Canteen should not have been allowed to use that bat for the rest of our game.
That being said I actually have a problem with the rule of tossing a bat from a shared bat game for taking it into the dugout and I don't blame Country Canteen one bit for getting pissed about it. We take our bats into the dugout all year and someone could easily do that during the course of a game by force of habit and it would be wrong to take a bat away from a team for an innocent mistake like that. If anyone knows what the rule is, because the way it was enforced and then not enforced we actually got screwed twice in two years by the same rule, I'd like to know?

Wow, never thought I would see a post about this game on the board here haha! And let me preface this point by saying A. I doubt more than a couple people on this board were in Rosholt for this game and B. If you weren't there save yourself 5 minutes by not reading my reply....
Rain,
I understand the point you are trying to make, and I can say I understand the situation for the fact that I was there and played SS for Canteen. I will say first that I think the fact that both teams can use any bat is actually kind of cool so other teams can use bats that are at least allegedly doctored, although it would be interesting to see what happens when someone breaks a bat that belongs to the other team. Secondly, without knowing much about anyone up there, I was impressed because I honestly dont think I noticed any bat all weekend that was 'worked' or stood out from any other bats which should say a lot about the players up there.
Obviously there was a lot of over reaction about a point that really didnt mean much in my opionion in the long run. Also, if you were referring to that Worth storm we were screwing around with, you can find one of those for 19.99 at any local Farm-N-Fleet. None of the other bats left the area. And additionally, the game before we played you guys the other team was using our bat(s) several times with no resistance from us.
The bats should have been placed in a seperate bin for everyone to take out of if it was decided that either team can use any bat. Because it makes no sense to 'keep the bats out of the dugout for everyone to use' when the fact is they are then in play which is dangerous and can cause an issue when trying to field a live ball.
The umps obviously weren't too up on all the rules (for example having 3 umps for the championship games, but no ump at first base....and the 3rd base ump calling a ball foul that was down the first base line) and the rules should be more defined. I dont think this is a situation that should've escalated to that point, because unless you see some person(s) specifically hitting with a bat then just hiding it then you would have a case, but we only had 4 bats all weekend and there wasnt anything we were going to hide.
It was a blast out there I will say that and you guys played well, but I think our team got pissed (yes a little over the top) because it just looked like your team was looking to create a situation out of something that should not have been a situation at all in a tournament that is not going to change the course of anyone's life haha. I am not from the area and just know those guys from college so take my opinion for what its worth

I was at the game in question, and Rain and I have talked about this situation.
Here's my 2 cents. At this tournament, whether you are using a shaved bat or not, the umpires (if you want to call them that) wouldn't know the difference. The tournament rules seem to be up for debate from game to game and sometimes inning to inning. If you're going to run a "use the other teams bats if you want" tournament, the bats should be put in the same location, i.e. a garbage can. This would kill the confusion of what bats are available or not. It would be interesting to see what happens when a team breaks another teams bat though, there is nothing in the "rules" about that.
Whether the bat in question is done or not, it's HOT for sure...and when it comes right down to it, you need to score more runs than the other team to win.
Here's another crazy rule that came up out there: one of the 'umpires' at the start of a game shows the leadoff hitter from each team that if a ball hits in the dirt right at the edge of the mat that it would be called a strike. My question to this is: Why run a plate and mat tourney where you just have to be in the vicinity to get a strike called??
Good ole Rosholt Fair....it's a fun weekend, but the tournament could be so much better...
Just my rant....

I wasn't talking about the Storm at all. In the confusion I understand that's what several people thought. I was talking about the green and black synergy. I agree the bats should be in a bin or on a rack on the fence behind home plate.
You are right it's not going to change anyone's life and it's really not that big of a deal. It's a good idea to have shared bats and I know you guys didn't care if we used what you had because I actually used the Stealth in my first AB.
I don't think any team has used the opposing teams bats the majority of the time and beaten them.
